 2017 Preview 


       Spring Garden completed the 2016 season with a 10-2 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region six, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Spring Garden reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Addison by a score of 42-26.

       No team at Spring Garden ever won more games in a season than the ten victories last year. The 526 points scored by the Panthers last year were a team record in a single season.

       The high-scoring Spring Garden offense ranked 11th in the AHSAA. They averaged 43.8 points a game.

       Since 2010, Spring Garden has gone a combined 42-35. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 1A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Spring Garden has managed to compile a record of 97-155. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 1A and 299th in the AHSAA.

       The Panthers are led by head coach Jason Howard who is entering his thirteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 66-65 over the past twelve seasons at Spring Garden. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Howard.

       Coach Howard's overall record as a head football coach in fourteen season stands at 71-80 (47.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Howard's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times .

       The Spring Garden Panthers will play in Class 1A region six during the 2017 season.

       Spring Garden enters the 2017 season with a string of 11 consecutive wins on their home field at Panther Stadium.

       The Panthers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region six this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Panthers open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Beulah on Friday, September 1 at Bobcat Stadium. Last year the Beulah Bobcats finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 3A region three. The Bobcats closed out the regular season with a loss to Holtville by a score of 41-39.

       Spring Garden and Beulah have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 1-1-0 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2016 with Spring Garden winning by a score of 47-12.

       Spring Garden returns 1A All-State Junior defensive lineman PJay Smith. He was named to the second team last season.
